Chakra Balancing with Sound Healing

Feb 11, 2025

Chakra balancing is a foundational aspect of energy healing, rooted in ancient traditions that understand the body as more than just a physical entity—it’s an energetic system. The main chakras are energy centres located along the spine, each responsible for a different aspect of physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. When energy flows freely through these centres, we feel grounded, vibrant, and in harmony. However, blockages or imbalances in the chakras can manifest as emotional difficulties, physical ailments, or spiritual disconnection.

Sound healing is an incredibly effective and gentle way to balance the chakras, using vibrational frequencies that resonate with each energy centre. As a sound healer who has worked with many clients and trained practitioners, I’ve seen first-hand the transformational power of sound in clearing blockages and restoring balance. Whether you're looking to deepen your personal practice or integrate sound healing into your work with others, understanding how to balance the chakras through sound is a powerful tool for holistic healing.

Understanding the Seven Chakras and Their Functions

Let’s take a closer look at the seven main chakras, their corresponding functions, and the qualities they govern:

1. Root Chakra (Muladhara): Located at the base of the spine, this chakra is all about grounding, stability, and feeling secure in the world. Its element is earth, and it is said that his colour is red.

2. Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana): Situated just below the navel, this chakra governs creativity, emotional expression, and sensuality. Its element is water, and it is said that his colour is orange.

3. Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura): Found in the upper abdomen, it is the seat of personal power, confidence, and willpower. Its element is fire, and its colour is yellow.

4. Heart Chakra (Anahata): Located at the centre of the chest, it is the bridge between the physical and spiritual realms, representing love, compassion, and forgiveness. It is said that his colour is green.

5. Throat Chakra (Vishuddha): Positioned at the throat, this chakra is linked to communication, truth, and self-expression. It is said  that his colour is violet.

6. Third Eye Chakra (Ajna): Found between the eyebrows, it governs intuition, insight, and perception. It is said that his colour is blue.

7. Crown Chakra (Sahasrara): At the top of the head, the crown chakra represents spiritual connection, enlightenment, and divine wisdom. It is said that his colour is white or transparent.

When these chakras are in balance, life flows with ease. When they’re blocked, however, challenges can arise. Sound healing offers a profound way to realign and energise these centres.

How Sound Healing Works for Chakra Balancing

Sound healing works on the principle that everything in the universe vibrates at a certain frequency, including the chakras. Each chakra has its own frequency, and sound healing tools—such as singing bowls, tuning forks, and gongs—produce vibrations that help to bring the energy centres back into alignment.

When Sound and vibration are introduced to a chakra, it resonates with the energy of that centre, breaking up stagnation and encouraging energy to flow freely. The vibrations also influence the body on a cellular level and guide the brain into states of relaxation, such as alpha or theta brainwave states, where deep healing can occur.

In my practice, I’ve seen how sound healing not only clears energetic blockages but also supports clients in achieving emotional clarity, physical relief, and a profound sense of inner harmony.

Sound Healing Tools for Chakra Alignment

There are many tools and instruments you can use to balance the chakras. Here are two of the most effective ones:

Singing Bowls for Chakra Frequencies

Singing bowls are a cornerstone of sound healing, particularly for chakra work. Metal bowls, often made of a combination of seven metals, and crystal bowls are both used for their unique tonal qualities. Each bowl is naturaly tuned to it’s own frequencies or note. Finding its own note will help us to corresponds to one of the chakras:

In our Western tradition it is said that each Chakra have a musical note correspondence

-  C for the Root Chakra

-  D for the Sacral Chakra

-  E for the Solar Plexus Chakra

-  F for the Heart Chakra

-  G for the Throat Chakra

  • A for the Third Eye Chakra
  • B for the Crown Chakra

In the Eastern tradition it is

-  F for the Root Chakra

-  C for the Sacral Chakra

-  G for the Solar Plexus Chakra

-  D for the Heart Chakra

-  A for the Throat Chakra

  • E for the Third Eye Chakra
  • B for the Crown Chakra

When the bowl is played, its resonant tones vibrate through the body, creating a soothing effect that helps the chakra  to enter in sympathy with the frequencies.

Tuning Forks for Precision Chakra Healing

Tuning forks are another excellent tool for chakra alignment, especially when a more targeted approach is needed. Each fork is tuned to a specific frequency that resonates with a particular chakra, allowing you to deliver focused healing.

For example, the 136.1 Hz tuning fork, often referred to as the “Ohm frequency,” is a universal tools and ideal for working with all Chakras. Simply striking the fork and holding it near the chakra or along the energy pathways of the body helps to restore flow and balance.

Tuning forks are especially useful for practitioners and clients who prefer minimal sound, as their vibrations are subtle yet deeply effective.

4. Visualise the flow of energy entering each Chakra's: As you focus on each energy centre, visualise its intensity its spinning and glowing brightly.

5. As you progress, make sure that you remain centered and focused. Keep your deep connection with the energy with presence.
